Ever since he was a little boy, Ted knew he would one day run a business. And when first-years started paying him to get into ‘Club Ted’ – which was really his dorm room – he not only realized it was time to step things up, but that working for someone else just wasn’t going to cut it. He got his chance to break free when an idea and an opportunity arose during his stay at the entrepreneur incubator, VeloCity residence at the University of Waterloo. Ted and a team of top engineering talents had one goal – to make the music experience on a BlackBerry™ better. Despite name changes, employee changes and delayed school semesters, Ted stuck it out. He refined his idea, tried again, and in April, 2010, after many all-nighters and speed coding sessions, Kik Messenger was revealed to the public. The Kik team was ecstatic and relieved, but they knew that to relax now would be the death of them. These days, the Kik team is busier than ever. There are fewer all-nighters but their lives still revolve around Kik and making awesome apps for everyone to use. They work hard and play harder – just like the awesome Kiksters they’re making apps for. While the team makes sure Kik Messenger continues to improve, they’re also working hard to refine the next ‘big thing’, because there’s plenty more to come from Kik!
