As I contemplate how to honor our veterans today, I thought as many of us do, to change my profile picture to that of a veteran in my life. However, I realize I have so many friends and family who are active military, and many more that are retired after serving honorably. How can I choose one since they have all sacrificed so much? Some are sacrificing their lives RIGHT NOW! Yet I still want to remember and honor them in some way. Needless to say THEY honor US more than we could ever honor them!
So I decided to post a picture of my grandfather Pedro Ramos Montalvo “papi pipon” a 17yr WWII volunteer (not drafted), member of the decorated 65th Infantry “The Borinqueneers”. Although I have honored him in the past I will continue to honor his memory and contribution. He was by no means a perfect man, but he did have the courage to stand up and fight. He stood up and fought for his beliefs, his family and his country which is more than most of us will ever do.
Thank you for your sacrifice and to all those veterans before you and after you that fight to maintain the freedom we take for granted every day.
Thank you,
Steven Torres Ramos
“Proud grandson”
