TransPhone pairs tablet and handset, emerged before ASUS Padfone — Engadget

While ASUS Padfone was being launched with much sticker-clad-model fanfare at Computex today, CMITs TransPhone was apparently enjoying its third day of life, having first appeared on the web as early as Saturday. Both tablets include built-in docks with smartphones to match, but are otherwise unique in appearance and features. The TransPhone includes a bluetooth headset and a slide-in smartphone dock, while the Padfones handset is completely hidden by a flip-up rear door. The CMIT device reportedly packs a 1.2GHz dual-core Qualcomm processor and SVGA display, along with USB and HDMI ports, though were still unclear on which OS will be running on the tablet. Theres also no word on pricing or availability, but the TransPhone is in good company there, so dont get ready to ditch those standalone gadgets just yet.

This Video Game Was Made in the 1940s

Do you see that retro-looking device above? That’s a cathode ray tube amusement device, one of the one of the first interactive video games ever made. You can tell by the circular green display that this missile simulator game was inspired by the radar displays of World War II. It was created and patented by Thomas T. Goldsmith, Jr. and Estle Ray Mann in the late 1940s.

Cops Scramble Helicopters and Tranquilizer Teams to Take Down Stuffed Tiger

RUN QUICKLY! SAVE YOURSELVES, THERE’S A VICIOUS BEAST PROWLING. CALL THE POLICE! CALL THE ZOO! CALL—Wait, what? What’d you say? It’s just a stupid stuffed animal? Aw crap. If that’s how you would’ve reacted to the sight of that big ol’ stuffed kitty up there, congratulations! You share much in common with the could people of Hampshire, UK, whose police force scrambled a helicopter with thermal imaging cameras and a tranquilizer team from the local zoo when the big cat was discovered near a cricket ground and golf course. Two particularly remarkable takeaways here. First, the police didn’t realize it was a fake until it was blown over by the downdraft of the helicopter. Second, British people haven’t lost that dry WWII resilience:

TiPb: The #1 iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch blog

Take this one with a 3.5-inch grain of salt, but Digitimes is reporting that Apple may introduce a curved-glass design in the next iPhone, which is expected to drop sometime this fall.

There has been a fair amount of buzz on the iPhone 5, and the latest being circulated around the supply chain in Taiwan is that Apple is going to adopt a curved cover glass for its next generation model

Apple has reportedly purchased 200-300 glass cutting machines for glass makers that they’ve stored in facilities until yield rates are at a high enough level to begin production. Apparently glass makers are reluctant to produce curved-glass for the next iPhone because of high capital costs, which is why Apple went out and got their own cutting machines

Various Android phones have used curved glassed before, and Apple has used curved-glass before in the previous generation iPod Nano, but this rumor goes against speculation that the next iPhone will be similar in design to the iPhone 4 with little aesthetic changes.

What do you think about a curved-glass design for the next iPhone? Sound off in the comments!

iPhone 5 to feature curved glass display according to rumor

The debate surrounding Apple’s next-generation iPhone design continues. While countless sources have claimed that Apple’s iPhone 5 will be an incremental upgrade akin to the iPhone 3G to iPhone 3GS bump, rumors continue to mount suggesting otherwise. The latest, which comes by way of DigiTimes, claims that Apple has purchased 200-300 glass cutting machines to be used by glass makers to build curved front panels for its fifth iPhone due later this year. While it is certainly possible that Apple’s next iPhone will implement a number of design changes including a new curved front panel, many believe the next iPhone will be a modest upgrade — which may have already been pictured in an exclusive BGR report — that features a faster processor, better cameras, up to 64GB of internal storage, new radios compatible with additional carriers such as T-Mobile USA and Sprint, and a few other internal tweaks. Unfortunately is could be a while before we know for sure, as rumors suggest Apple may focus on software at this year’s WWDC keynote and wait until its annual September event to unveil the next iPhone.

Cisco Threw Their Flip Cams in the Trash

We knew Cisco was killing off the now-obsolete Flip cam, but did they really have to dump them into the trash can, like a used condom or empty box of Lucky Charms? And why’d they toss the globe paperweight?

The mass grave pic was snapped by a Cisco employee who must have been troubled by the sight of so many gadgets. And I am too! Just because they’re outclassed doesn’t mean they’re useless. Couldn’t Cisco have put them to work as doorstops or something?

This May Be the Other Stealth Helicopter Used In the Osama Attack

What you are looking at here may not exist, but its likely to be the stealth heavy transport helicopter that carried backup SEAL commandos in the final hunt for Osama bin Laden. It looks appropriately powered by ninja stars. The blades design is striking, but not new. We have seen those before—a similar contraption is being used by Eurocopter engineers to attenuate the noise caused by blade-vortex interaction, the noisy whoop-whoop-whoop swooshing sound made by the helicopters rotor.
