How ducks are force fed to make foie gras

How ducks are force fed to make foie gras

Here’s a revealing documentary about what is perhaps America’s most controversial food: foie gras. Made by Zagat, it tries to examine all sides of the story. From the farm that supplies the fattened duck liver to the chefs who cook the buttery meat goodness to the organizations that oppose the concept of force feeding animals to the animal experts who understand the biology of ducks best. It’s an interesting watch.

The GIF above shows how Hudson Valley Foie Gras gavage feeds their ducks. This process happens about three times a day. A duck’s anatomy allows it to tolerate getting a tube stuck down their throat but boy, it’s still pretty unpleasant to see.
