Magisto edits videos automagically, deluges the interwebs with idiot auteur savancy — Engadget

Oh, the plague of social media and its irrational empowerment of at-home, amateur media moguls. Well, truth be told, not everyone has the tenacity to sit and slog through hours of footage to create a skillfully made, ready-for-prime time upload. Not to worry you talentless hacks, Magistos got a web-based tool thatll automate your lack of video editing expertise, and churn out YouTube-worthy, ADD-style clips replete with background music and fancy multi-window effects. The service, which makes use of an algorithm to recognize “people, pets and landscapes and can even…[analyze] sounds and images,” had formerly been available in a private beta, but is now open and free to anyone with a camera, a computer and a decent internet connection. Weve seen the results of the companys handiwork and its all pretty much the same thing — an incoherent, tune-laden mashup. Which is to say, ideal for the Twitter and Facebook IV drips weve come to subsist upon. Go ahead and test the hyper-editing software out at the source below — its not like you actually have to do anything, anyway. Just click.

iPhone 5 to launch October 15th according to France Telecom CEO

Apple’s iPhone 5 will launch on Orange in Europe on October 15th according to comments from the CEO of the carrier’s parent company, France Telecom. FT chief executive Stéphane Richard, who has openly discussed Apple’s plans for the iPhone ahead of announcement in the past, told the French press that the iPhone 5 will launch on Orange in mid-October, TechRadar reports. “If we believe what we have been told, the iPhone 5 will be released on 15 October,” the CEO said without elaborating. Apple’s iPhone 5 has previously been rumored to be set for an October 7th release, which may still be the case in some markets. Apple is expected to unveil the iPhone 5 alongside an updated iPhone 4 model at a press event later this month or early in October.

Even More Photo Evidence of a Bigger iPhone 5 Screen (And Home Button!)

We’re about as certain as it gets regarding something you haven’t seen that the iPhone 5 will have a big ‘ol screen. There’s been prior evidence—but here’s even more! An iPhone 5 screen protector appears in the wild.

Unearthed by Hong Kong tech site Unwired.hk, the screen film also backs up the expectedly-widened home button. The dimensional difference looks to be the same illustrated by the leaked case from earlier in the month. We’ll find out for sure soon! Very, very soon. [Unwire.hk via MacRumors]

iPhone 5 to have radical new design according to Case-Mate images

The iPhone 5 hasn’t been announced yet, but that has not stopped accessory makers from posting upcoming cases for the highly anticipated handset. Case-Mate has published a page on its website with six different case designs for the new iPhone 5, and we’re loving the radical new body shown in the images. We’ve heard tons of speculation that the iPhone 5 will be thinner and lighter than the current model and these cases suggest it will have tapered edges and a slim profile as well. Finally, the images appear to an aluminum back on the fifth-generation iPhone, which also jibes with earlier reports. The iPhone 5 is expected to be available in the United States in October, so we’re not surprised to see leaks like this start to spill out across the web. Thanks, David

The Sinch Wraps, Releases And Stores Your Ear Buds

The $16 Sinch is a simple accessory thatll attach your ear buds to a phone or portable music player. Its a thin, rectangular piece of elastic with a small hole and a couple of magnets. And its very easy to use. Just slip the plug end of the ear buds through the hole, plug the buds into the audio jack and let the elastic dangle down the backside of the device. When youre done listening to your favorite tunes, wrap the cord of the ear buds around your device and the elastic band. Fold the elastic band around the ear buds and if you did it correctly, the two magnets will line up and keep everything securely closed until you are ready to rock and roll again.

Snazzy iPhone Mod Illuminates Apple Logo | Gadget Lab | Wired.com

I find the mirrored Apple logo on the back of the iPhone 4 to be convenient for the occasional “Has my makeup melted?” or “Is there food in my teeth?” check. If it weren’t for that, I’d definitely be interested in a cool mod like this glowing Apple logo.

This iPhone 4 mod, from British iDevice repair service iPatch, sets the Apple logo on your phone aglow whenever the screen lights up, much as the logo on a MacBook lights up when opened. From the pictures, it looks pretty slick.

How iPatch accomplishes this is “a complete secret” and “very tricky to replicate,” says Andy Smith, the director of iPatch.

“It’s not something that could be done at home without specialist equipment,” he says.

The process takes a few hours. It uses your iPhone’s original rear case, so your phone isn’t any thicker when the mod is complete. You can choose the color of your glowing Apple, and it can be done to black or white iPhones.

This isn’t the first time the iPhone’s logo has been set ablaze. In 2008, a Russian iPhone hack achieved the same thing, using software that allowed you to adjust the intensity of the glow. Other notable appearance-altering iPhone mods include a solid Titanium 3GS backplate, a sleek (and cheap) brushed aluminum back cover for the iPhone 4 and an iPhone fitted with a QWERTY keyboard.

iOS 5 beta 8 coming this Friday, GM on the 23rd, iPhone 5 launch early October as rumored?

We have received some information from a trusted source surrounding upcoming release of iOS 5 that could help pinpoint a more specific launch time frame for the iPhone 5. Starting off, we have been told that even though Apple seeded iTunes 10.5 beta 8 last week, iOS 5 beta 8 won’t be released until this Friday. After beta 8, Apple will introduce a Gold Master build on or around September 23rd as has been rumored. We believe that build is what will be loaded onto the already-assembled iPhone 5 hardware currently waiting for final software in China. Apple will then request that carrier partners give technical acceptance to the Gold Master by October 5th if there are no issues with it. What’s not clear is what Apple will do if the Gold Master doesn’t pass technical acceptance for some reason, though odds are it will still be loaded on the iPhone 5 at launch with a software update made available almost immediately following the device’s release.

Windows 8 for tablets hands-on preview video — Engadget

Just last week, we got our paws on Samsungs Series 7 Slate, and its already making its second debut. This time around, however, its sporting a much more mouthwatering setup. No, its not dawning Lady Gagas edible leftovers; this new look comes courtesy of Microsofts much teased and hotly anticipated touch-friendly OS, Windows 8. As youve likely already heard, the latest incarnation of the operating system is something entirely new for Redmond, and, as it turns out, the world. Its unlike anything weve seen before, but that wont stop us from making comparisons.Like Apples latest attempt at a desktop OS, Windows 8 borrows largely from its mobile kin, Window Phone 7, bringing its signature live tiles to tablets and PCs, and from what weve seen it does so effortlessly. Before we go ruining a good thing, however, we have to point out that this isnt everything Windows has to offer — its still a developers preview and in turn, an OS under construction, and the device its running on hasnt been approved as an official Windows 8 slate. Got all that? Good. Read on for our first impressions!

Wacom Cintiq 24HD images break cover, we start practicing our stick figures — Engadget

Weve been all giddy since the Cintiq 24HD waltzed through the FCC last month… and now, we have even more reason to be excited. Although unconfirmed, signs continue to point to a 24-inch HD display 1920 x 1200 supported — upon which Wacom has implemented a stand that appears to allow the user to customize their viewing angle based on the task at hand. According to CG Everything, the peripheral is said to boast 2048 levels of pressure sensors with a 60-degree tilt sensor, 92 percent Adobe RGB color saturation, 190 nits of brightness, 550:1 contrast ratio and a 13ms response time. Were still waiting on Wacom to corroborate all of this, but those whod rather throw caution to the wind can indulge below.
