No iPhone 5 this June, report claims | BGR

A rumor reported early on Tuesday claiming the iPhone 5 will launch in June is false, a new report claims. The Loop, which is known for reporting accurate information regarding Apple products, cites an anonymous source in claiming that Apple will indeed switch things up this year and skip its now-customary June iPhone launch. “My sources said today that rumors of an iPhone 5 release at the end of June were completely false,” the blog states. Don’t fret, Apple fans — you’ve still got iOS 5 to look forward to this summer. The iPhone 5 will reportedly launch in September, and will feature more internal storage, an 8-megapixel camera and an NFC chip for mobile payments. It may also sport a metal case similar to the custom case back seen on the iPhone 4 pictured above.

Japan’s Earthquake Could Cause Delays For Sony’s NGP

Sony’s next PlayStation Portable, currently codenamed NGP, may not be a global affair this year, in part due to the massive Tōhoku earthquake and deadly tsunami that slammed Japan last month.

Sony Computer Entertainment America president Jack Tretton tells Bloomberg that the natural disasters may force Sony to launch the Next Generation Portable in “just one market by the end of the year.”

While not surprising—Sony committed only to the NGP “mak[ing] its debut at the end of the year 2011” when it was announced—it may be disappointing. But it’s not uncharacteristic for Sony, which first released the PSP in Japan in December 2004, staggering the system’s North American and European launches into the next year.

Tretton does not specify which region the NGP (or PSP2) would launch in this year, but given the PSP’s continued success in Japan, Sony’s home base seems like one of the best options.

TiPb: The #1 iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch blog

Korean news site ETNews claims Apple will hold a second event in June, separate from WWDC, to announced iPhone 5, and then release it in the fourth week of June.iPhone 5, the next model of iPhone 4, will be released on the coming 4th week of June. In the midst of the iPhone 5 postponement rumors, Apple has confirmed that iPhone 5 will be released as planned and it will be released simultaneously in Korea through SK Telecom and KT.While the source for the information is supposedly Apple, Apple never gives information out on future products or release dates. Even leaks from carriers are often — though not always — highly inaccurate. We’re tempted to file this one away under highly dubious for now, but given the recent rumors of iPhone 5 only launching in the fall, anything positive regarding a June announcement is worth thinking about![MacRumors]

Microsoft releases OneNote app for iPhone, free for a ‘limited time’

Well, here’s something of a surprise — Microsoft has just brought its OneNote app to the iPhone, and it’s made it available as a free download “for a limited time” to boot. As with the Windows Phone 7 app (previously the only mobile version), the iPhone app will let you manage notes and shopping lists (and even add pictures taken with the iPhone’s camera), and then sync those with Windows Live SkyDrive so you can access them in either the Windows desktop application or its web-based counterpart. As ZDNet’s Mary Jo Foley notes, however, perhaps just as interesting as the app itself is the question of what else might follow — a native OneNote app for iPad, perhaps, or even iOS versions of other Office applications? Microsoft unsurprisingly isn’t commenting on those possibilities, but it did note that the OneNote app is the culmination of some 18 to 24 months of development from a team of Microsoft Mac Office and OneNote engineers, which is either a sign of some serious slacking or a fairly significant commitment on Microsoft’s part. No word on when the “limited” free period will run out (so you’ll probably want to grab it while you can), nor is there any world on a worldwide release — it’s currently only available to US users, unfortunately.
