ATT’s 4G Is More Bullshit Than Anybody Else’s

The definition of 4G is fairly loose, to say the least. Every carrier pushes their own version. Sprint was first, with WiMax. Then T-Mobile started pushing HSPA+. Verizon launched LTE, the fastest. And then AT&T started tossing around “4G” as well.However you want to define 4G or not, what is clear, as Sascha Segan points out, is that AT&T is currently peddling the worst 4G of anybody. In PCMags testing, AT&Ts two “4G” phones, the Atrix and Inspire, are much slower than some of their 3G phones, like the iPhone 4 and Dell Venue. Japan Declares Nuclear Emergency as Nuclear Plants Cooling Functions Fail Updated

Fukushima nuclear plantKat Hannaford — Its being labelled a precautionary measure, but reportedly the Japanese government has issued a state of emergency plea after a cooling system failure atTohoku Electric Power Cos Onagawa nuclear plant. This comes after an 8.9-magnitude earthquake struck Japan earlier today.According to an administrator at the plant, the situation was “not going as planned,” but that there wasnt any radioactive leakage or damage at the time.Update: A second nuclear facility, the Fukushima No. 1 power plant, is reporting a quake-related mechanical failure affecting its cooling function. No radiation leaks have been detected at the moment, but CNN reports Japanese officials are “bracing for the worst,” and thousands are being urged to evacuate or stay indoors.Japans shut down the four nuclear plants closest to the quakes epicenter to avoid similar failures.

A magnitude 8.9 earthquake rocked Japan today, causing a 23-foot tsunami thats blazing a path of destruction, leaving at least 60 people dead and triggering tsunami warnings throughout the Pacific, include the western coast of the United States. At least 19 powerful aftershocks have struck the country, reversing the path of rivers, washing away boats and cars and leaving buildings shaking like jelly. “It started and it lasted a good five minutes, lots of shaking and very scary. Im on the 11th floor, just down the street from the Tokyo tower,” Randy Castle, a U.S. man working in Japan, said. The Tokyo tower, a famed landmark in Japan, is now bent.

Apple releases iOS 4.3 — Engadget

 

Well, its not March 11th, but you can now download iOS 4.3 for you iPhone, iPad or iPod touch most of them, anyway. That, of course, brings with it mobile hotspot functionality for iPhones, along with a variety of new AirPlay features, a new and improved version of Safari, and a number of other more minor improvements and fixes like an option to control how your iPads side switch behaves.
