Pedro Ramos Montalvo “papi pipon”

As I contemplate how to honor our veterans today, I thought as many of us do, to change my profile picture to that of a veteran in my life. However, I realize I have so many friends and family who are active military, and many more that are retired after serving honorably. How can I choose one since they have all sacrificed so much? Some are sacrificing their lives RIGHT NOW! Yet I still want to remember and honor them in some way. Needless to say THEY honor US more than we could ever honor them!

So I decided to post a picture of my grandfather Pedro Ramos Montalvo “papi pipon” a 17yr WWII volunteer (not drafted), member of the decorated 65th Infantry “The Borinqueneers”. Although I have honored him in the past I will continue to honor his memory and contribution. He was by no means a perfect man, but he did have the courage to stand up and fight. He stood up and fought for his beliefs, his family and his country which is more than most of us will ever do.

Thank you for your sacrifice and to all those veterans before you and after you that fight to maintain the freedom we take for granted every day.

Thank you,

Steven Torres Ramos

“Proud grandson”

Some Evil Fascist Congressmen Tried to Overturn Net Neutrality and then the Good Ones Protected It and then America Won

Texas Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison, apparent hater of the internet, decided she had enough of America using it to easily gain access to information, news and Nyan Cat. So she demanded that congress overturn the FCC’s Net Neutrality policy. Today, she lost.

After the House of Representatives voted to overturn the legislation that was passed last year, Hutchinson picked up the flag for the Senate and began crusading against the single greatest innovation ever. Senate rejected the measure 52-46, ensuring that the original Obama-backed ruling will be upheld, and our corporate ISP overlords can’t charge for premium access to select websites. Now if you’ll excuse me, I have more Courage Wolves to make. [WSJ]

Nokia publishes Lumia 800 ‘making-of’ documentary (video) — Engadget

You’ve already heard Nokia’s Peter Skillman talk design regarding the N9, and now it’s Nokia’s turn to show you what kind of magical mayhem went into the the making of the Lumia 800. It’s an eight-minute long clip discussing the decisions behind the company’s “first Windows Phone,” with Nokia calling it “as much a story about collaboration and taking risks as it is about design.” Taking risks, indeed. It’s a good watch regardless of your platform affiliation, and it can be found just after the break.

Nokia’s Humanform concept phone, not shaped like us (video) – Engadget

We barely recovered from Nokia’s futuristic concept buffet at Nokia World, but a new video has unearthed the deceptively named Humanform. Fortunately not shaped like a dolly, this teardrop device cooked up Nokia’s in-house labs supposedly uses some as-yet unexplained nanotechnology, with a bendable transparent display and a fully touch sensitive casing. The segmented design also channels some Wiimote-esque gesture features and twist controls seen on the phone behemoth’s Kinetic Device. An inert Humanform shell was also on show alongside it last month, although it didn’t do much aside from bending. See if you agree with Nokia’s vision of the mobile future after the break.

AT&T Ad Goes Viral by Telling it Like it Is

Many smartphone ads tout all of the wonderful ways their devices will help you keep on top of your job, but we all know that there’s more to smartphones than that.

Perhaps that’s why this ad from AT&T promoting Research In Motion’s BlackBerry Torch 4G has struck a chord. The ad broke on Monday, but is already up to close to 400,000 views. Why? There’s something inherently funny about brutal honesty delivered as if it was plain vanilla management speak. Here, the boss barks out orders to do things that employees are going to do with the phones anyways, such as loading videos of their kids on YouTube and checking in everywhere on Foursquare.

Updated: As our readers have pointed out, a posting on Reddit had a hand in sending this video viral. An actor in the commercial posted the video with the caption, “After three years of auditioning, I booked my first commercial. I say “Huh?” in this AT&T spot.” After one day, the post has nearly 3,000 comments.

The Waldorf-Astoria’s Presidential Entrance Includes a Secret Train Station

How did President Franklin Delano Roosevelt get into the Waldorf-Astoria without alerting the paparazzi? A secret subterranean train station, obviously.

This is track 61, a little-known extension of the New York subway system that runs directly under the world-famous Waldorf-Astoria hotel. It has hosted numerous luminaries from General Pershing, who visited in 1938, to Andy Warhol, who used it as a party space in 1965. The trolleys were reportedly capable of transporting President Franklin Delano Roosevelt’s Pierce Arrow car—with him inside—which could drive off the train and directly onto an elevator that would carry it topside.

Republic Wireless launches with $19 unlimited plan

Republic Wireless went live on Tuesday with its impossibly cheap $19 unlimited talk, text and data plan, presenting a service that could potentially save some users a tremendous amount of money each month. “Newsflash: anything a cell network can do, the Internet can do better and cheaper,” Republic Wireless touts on its website. “So we think a truly smart smartphone should make a habit of using Wi-Fi for everything. Surfing. Texting. Sharing. And, yes, even talking.” Read on for more. Thanks to software technology that offloads voice calling and SMS to Wi-Fi networks whenever possible, Republic Wireless uses Sprint’s cellular network only when Wi-Fi service is not available. When Wi-Fi connections are available, it uses UMA to pipe communications over the Internet.Unfortunately, the term “unlimited” is apparently entirely unregulated in the wireless space, and Republic Wireless uses the term rather loosely. The carrier employs what it refers to as a “fair use threshold” that defines average monthly cellular service usage. Should a subscriber’s monthly usage regularly exceed that threshold by a significant amount, Republic Wireless will give said subscriber the boot.

AT&T and Intuit square up to… Square video — Engadget

Better watch your back, Jack. Smartphone-payment player Intuit has formed an unholy alliance with AT&T to produce Intuit GoPayment for AT&T these guys love the sound of their own names in the hope of muscling in on Squares burgeoning smartphone mobile payments game. Time and money-poor small business people just need to insert the reader into the headphone socket of their phone or tablet and fire up the app. The partnership is offering faster deposits, no monthly service charge mind that 2.7 percent commission per use, though and the backing of a massive telecoms corporation. The service also forwards email receipts to customers and integrates with Quickbooks to save a further job when its the end of quarter. The partnership thinks that mobile transactions will be in the trillions and, understandably, want in on that action. After the break you can watch an informative video and read all the gory details in the joint press release.

Must See to believes [This Video Shows Why Photoshop Will Never Cease to Amaze Me]

Or better said, the people using Photoshop would never cease to amaze me.The thing I like the most is the way he paints in greyscale and then modifies colors using the Hue & Saturation panel. The use of the Liquify tool to adjust the volumes is really smart too—and quite effective, Ive to add. Even if he traced the photo at the beginning, his shading skills are impressive.
